Wesel
WeselIn Wesel, the hanseatic town on the Rhine and Lippe rivers, the Willibrordi cathedral and the historic town hall façade are impressive remnants of its hanseatic past. The Berliner Tor gate and the citadel grounds were built when the Prussian princes and kings turned Wesel into the largest fortress complex in the Rhineland region. Visit the LVR Lower Rhine Museum in Wesel, as well as the Auesee lake. Explore this local administrative centre and discover the trail of Wesel’s most well-known son, Konrad Duden, and the famous “Weseler Esel” (“Wesel donkey”).
